“All Americans, not only in the states most heavily affected, but in every place in this country are rightly disturbed by the large numbers of illegal aliens entering our country.Answer: it was Bill Clinton, the 42nd President of the United States, as can be seen here.
The jobs they hold might otherwise be held by citizens or legal immigrants. The public services they use impose burdens on our taxpayers. That's why our Administration has moved aggressively to secure our borders more, by hiring a record number of new border guards, by deporting twice as many criminal aliens as ever before, by cracking down on illegal hiring, by barring welfare benefits to illegal aliens.
In the budget I will present to you, we will try to do more to speed the deportation of illegal aliens who are arrested for crimes, to better identify illegal aliens in the workplace as recommended by the commission headed by former Congresswoman Barbara Jordan.
We are a nation of immigrants, but we are also a nation of laws. It is wrong and ultimately self-defeating for a nation of immigrants to permit the kind of abuse of our immigration laws we have seen in recent years, and we must do more to stop it.”
Given that this is not that far from what Trump said about illegal immigration, why is it that Trump is reviled as an evil “racist” and “xenophobe,” but Bill Clinton is a hero of the Democratic party and many liberal Americans?
But this is not the only restrictionist immigration policy pursued by Democrats in living memory.
Take a look at what Jimmy Carter did:
“During the Iranian hostage crisis of 1980, President Jimmy Carter adopted a ban of Shiite Muslim immigrants from Iran entering into the US in an effort to ‘protect the country.’ He ultimately deported 15,000 Iranian students. Carter’s ban ‘invalidated all visas issued to Iranian citizens for future entry into the United States.’”Given that Iran had been taken over by a hostile fundamentalist Shiite regime by 1980, Carter’s policy may have been harsh but not irrational or totally unreasonable.
Renee Parsons, “The Snowflake Nation and Trump on Immigration,” Counterpunch, 9 December, 2016.
Yet Carter, of course, strangely isn’t being slandered as a “racist” and “Islamophobe,” although he effectively banned a whole group of Muslims.
More on the hypocrisy of US Democrats on the immigration issue can be read in this Counterpunch article here.

There's an achingly huge difference resting in the fact that many people like Trump on the perception that he's nasty, racist and crude. Trump might not actually be racist yet he doesn't care if you are. That's the understanding.
ReplyDeleteTrump is the dirt and that's why people like him. I wouldn't try too to deny the racism and sexism that's not how elections get won.
*YAWN* And Obama is the Deportation king. Your point?
ReplyDeleteWhy is Carter not reviled in such a way as you suggest? Oh, Idk could it be that he has a record of brokering a real peace agreement that lasted several decades? And has spoken out on behalf of Palestini Arabs? I wonder!
Got something hard to answer? lol
